Molecular engineering of protein polymers


Recombinant technology can be harnessed to produce protein polymers with exquisite control over molecular weight and monodispersity. Because of sequence similarity with elastin and other natural proteins, these polymers can show high biocompatibility. Protein polymers can find wide applications in drug delivery, nanomedicine, tissue engineering, stem cell differentitation and immunotherapy. Our current focus is on synthesis and characterization of elastin-based protein polymers to form nanoparticles for various drug delivery applications. (⇐BACK)
